Hard to discuss anything else about this round of the Jukebox when we lost Martin Skidmore this week, easily one of our finest writers and most certainly our most reliable. Martin continued to blurb at the Jukebox even with the reality of his illness looming over him, a reality he shared in emails and posts to his livejournal in which he bluntly acknowledged how little time he had left, and yet continued to devote that time to the things he loved anyway. Reading other people’s tributes and anecdotes both at the Jukebox and at the ILM boards fills me with regret over not knowing him better (I’m a relative newbie to this tribe, after all) but the sheer fondness that I’ve witnessed in other people’s words is a testament to a life well lived.
